DW-5600SA-9

This is the DW-5600SA-9. It is part of the Street Art Series issued in 2005. It is basically the same watch as the DW-5600SA-2 reviewed earlier. This watch also carries the Module 1545. This watch is called the sense x sonar project watch. It is a collaboration between Mr. Sun-Deok Sakamaki aka sense, sonar project and Casio. sense is an artist, musician and snowboard rider. sonar project is a Japanese design group involved in graphic arts and media design.

Since this is the same watch as the DW-5600SA-2, this review will focus on the differences. First colour of the watch. It is rendered completely in light yellow. The yellow is matte and not bright. The wordings on the bezel is completely devoid of colour. The dial is rendered in 2 shades of green. The entire dial is light green and the line around the LCD is bright green. There is some sort of logo on the lower left of the dial. This logo is repeated on the bands.

The case back is standard Casio. Again it would be nice of the center of the case back is decorated with a different logo instead of the G-shock logo. What is interesting is that the resin body is white instead of the traditional black body. The watch is made in Thailand (Thailand Y).

The bands. There are silk printing on both the bands. According to Casio, the markings are military markings of the future. The keeper is rendered in the same bright green as the one found on the dial.

As with the DW-5600SA-2, the band is wider as compared to the standard DW-5600E. It is very comfortable. Markings on the inside are '413 H1' and '413 H2'.

As with the DW-5600SA-2, the buckle on this watch is also made in Japan. It has the same quality as other buckles made by Casio.

The EL back light on this watch is very interesting. The 'graffiti' design stretches across the LCD. I have no idea what the design represents. The other interesting aspect of the EL has to do with the dial. The light green colour that Casio uses to colour the dial is very light. So when the EL back light is selected, part of the dial also lights up. I have tried to capture this but sadly I was not able to. Basically the dial will light up to the dotted line on the dial (see picture below).

Overall this is a nice watch. However, the choice of colour makes it a difficult watch to use on a daily basis as it can get dirty very easily.
