Fuller Watch Company

This is another interesting watch company, the Fuller Watch Company. This watch company is based in Hong Kong and is operated by Noah Fuller. For those who does not know Mr. Fuller, he is one of the few people who does and provide parts to modify Seiko Diver watches via his company 10watches. It is a natural progression for Mr. Fuller to produce his own watch, The Tsunami.

Basic specifications:
Function: hours, minutes, seconds and date
Case: 316L stainless steel cushion case, diameter 44 mm, lug width 22 mm (drilled lugs)
Movement: Seiko 6R15 calibre
Crystal: sapphire? 5 mm thick, domed
Case back: stainless steel, thicker as compared to the original 6309 case back
Crown: screw-down
Water resistant: 333 M

The watch that the Fuller Watch Company hopes to offer sometime in October or November 2009 will be called The Tsunami. This watch is based on the popular and famous Seiko 6309-7040 divers watch from the 80s. The Tsunami is not only a homage to this diver watch but Mr. Fuller has improved on it. Please appreciate that photographs of the actual watch is still not available as the watch is still being refined. However the company has made available mock-ups of the watch. From what I can see, it is looking good.

The case (prototype). As can be seen from the photograph below, the finish is great. I love the cushion case. The lugs will have drilled spring bar lugs, which is in line with the modular concept Fuller Watch Company is offering with this watch. This allows for easy changing of the strap.

It has taken the company 2 and a half years to perfect and come out with the design of the watch. The Tsunami will not only offer the classic look of the 6309-7040 Diver, but also provide the ability to change parts on the watch. This unique proposition offered by the Fuller Watch company allows parts from today's modern Seiko divers watch to be used on the Tsunami. Parts are interchangeable from the Seiko SKX007 and SBDC001 Divers watch. How great is that.

The Tsunami in its original form is offered in 3 basic design but with dial and minute chapter changes, the offerings move to 12 possible combinations. The photograph below shows the possible dial and minute chapter combination.

The improvements that the company has carried out as compared to original are the thicker crystal at 5 mm. This allows the watch to have a better water resistance rating. Additionally, the case back is thicker. This helps in improving the water resistance rating of the watch.

I am happy to say that Mr. Fuller has decided to retain the cushion case design as this is a great design. The cushion case is comfortable (based on my 6309-7040) and looks great. The watch is available in PVD black, catering to demands of those who want their watch to have a bit of stealth look to it. The watches will be individually hand built, another plus point.

The other improvement is the use of the Seiko 6R15 movement. The 6R15 calibre is a new calibre from Seiko. It has the following specifications:

Hacking
Hand wind-able automatic
50 hours power reserve
23 jewels
21,600 A/h
Quick date adjustment
Accuracy 3-4 seconds a day

I feel that it is great that the company has decided to use this movement as compared to the popular 7S26 (which is a great movement itself).

I hope to bring pictures of the final product and updates once it becomes available. It is indeed an interesting watch offered by an interesting company.

  1. I'm a big fan of Seiko, and if the watches are based from this brand and they've improved them then it'll be one of my faves too!
