Do It Yourself Watch KIt

Today is going to be a long day as Taiwan is being hit by a typhoon. This is the first major typhoon to hit Taiwan this year. So it is time to surf the Internet and see what is happening in the horological world.

I found this while surfing the large on-line bookstore (that sells others things as well). I think it is an interesting idea. However I don't know if the execution of the idea is as good. Why? Well, based on my experience thus far, assembling a watch is not a walk in the park. The target group for this product is the 7 to 14 year old. Don't know if they have the patience to do this.

Anyway, the kit itself is pretty interesting. It comes with 2 dials, the hands, the quartz movement, basically everything you need to put a watch together. It also comes with a couple of tools. It comes with a loupe, a screwdriver, a tweezer and even a hand setting tool. The small parts (another reason why it might not be appropriate for kids) comes in tubes.

From the pictures, it looks like the hands are Luminous and as is one of the dial. The basic specifications:

Case: plastic, diameter 30 mm, height 6 mm, lug width 15 mm
Crystal: mineral
Movement: quartz (Seiko)

The blister pack.

What you get.

The final product.
